Second Body Comp test

So 8 weeks have passed and it was time for the second body composition test. I wasn't following the food plan to the dot because of the nature of my quite physically demanding work. All weeks except the last I was training 3-4 times per week and mostly following the plan. I guess having birthday yesterday didn't really make the results of that body scan better but that doesn't matter too much.

About 5 weeks into training program I was able to fit back into my size smaller clothes and even a dress I had bought and thought of selling due to being too small. Very lovely to have it comfortably on right now.

Well, the numbers from that test were not that amazing. To be honest I was actually surprised how little they had changed according to that scanner there.

Body Weight 84.1 -> 80.8 = -3.3kg
Skeletal Muscle Mass 30 -> 28.9 = -1.1kg
Body Fat % 36.5 -> 36.2 = -0.3%

The printer had broken down so we didn't get the report with other numbers yet. Well, not that impressive really for doing all that exercise and mainly following the food plan - a few years ago I had better results with running and calorie counting I think :) But I do feel stronger and fitter which is the main thing, not doing it for numbers anyway.

Also found the measurements from August last year, after I did some exercise on my own and then had that trip to NZ and Christmas. In Feb started F45. Those numbers look a bit better :)

Chest: 113 -> 107 = -6cm
Waist at the thinnest point: 95 -> 85 = -10 cm
Waist at navel level: 107 -> 100 = -7cm
Hips: 115 -> 110 = -5 cm

Body Scan and week 2 of F45

InBody 570 body composition scan gave me total score of 78/100 which i didn't find that awful. So the numbers were:

Weight: 84kg
Skeletal Muscle Mass: 30 kg
Body Fat: 36.5%
Body water ratio: 0.375
Basal Metabolic Rate:: 1524kcal

There's a suggestion of losing 14.7kg of fat which would bring me to target weight of 69.4kg. Other numbers show that i don't have to worry about osteoporosis and that my cells are nicely hydrated.

It did get my measurements in cm a bit wrong, probably due to bigger than average bust and smaller than average waist. For same reason I suspect the fat % is a little bit off but I don't really expect this body scan to be 100% correct. As long as it will show the progress at the end of week 8 challenge, it has done it's job.

Yesterday we also took pictures and I did not enjoy looking at those! Well, push hard in a gym and get better pics next time!

F45

Monday session in F45 was tough! 45 minutes of cardio, fast paced, most of the time felt dizzy. Tuesday and Thursday was more of a weight session which was great. Next class on Saturday which is 1 hr and should have cardio and weights in it.

I have really enjoyed the sessions and the studio is so close to home so I will stick with it for now. On Monday 8 week challenge starts, they provide the food plan and there's an option for body composition scan before and after the 8-week challenge. Not sure how accurate it is or anything but hopefully will show nice change in fat % and muscle mass. I don't care about winning it etc. just hoping it is a great kick-start towards my general health. I'm a bit scared to lose lots fast - don't want to end up with saggy skin.

Juicing has been good too. Every day 1-2 big glasses, no fruits usually in there so it doesn't spike blood sugars. To get fiber I prefer eating the fruit. This way it is also easier to control the portions. This morning had glass of orange juice with my brekky which was probably first fruit based juice this week.

So Sat checking out the session in gym and Sun body composition - it probably doesn't look too good so hopefully is not going to cause any set-backs mentally.

Before each class I have been quite nervous as i haven't been out there for a long time. Worried about meeting new people and that they are very fit, just being embarrassed of myself, or feeling out of place because the trainers are so young and fit etc. In reality the trainers are young and fit but they are very friendly and welcoming. Also there are other women just like myself huffing and puffing through the sessions. I am sure very soon I am really going to look forward to my sessions.

Side effects of juicing?

After 3 days of drinking juices alongside my meals (or instead of snacks) I felt constantly hungry. And really really tired, like 3-4pm rady to bed, weak in my limbs tired. Googled to see if anyone else has noticed that at all - yes! So from all the ideas most logical explanation seemed to be

- be careful with fruit content and also carrots and beetroots... yes I had been using apple and carrot to test different recipes and to just sweeten them up. You need to use quite a bit of produce to make a reasonable amount of juice so it might have been that my juices sugar content was still too high and kept spiking my blood sugar levels, therefore hungry and tired
- fiber is taken out in the process of juicing, so you feel hungry very soon - better to have juice with food or mix some of the pulp into juice for fiber content

Thursday - Friday had only 1 glass with my breakfast and 1 glass after dinner. Didn't notice being hungry all day long, also didn't feel so utterly tired all day. Maybe that's the way of it then.

Still 2 coffees though. Maybe coffees were also draining nutrients out of my body. Maybe my iron levels are low again and that's why I'm tired, it has been the reason in past.

And the good news is that there is a way to make the sewing patterns fit you - you have to trace one size smaller from the pattern which it should be according to measurement. Looks like pattern companies add so much "ease" into clothes that you get a tent instead of a dress. Tested out and it works! Why does it have to be so complicated??!!

Will go and check out F 45 on Monday.

Bakings

Juices taste so fresh and full of flavor! Have been drinking mainly vegetable based juices, not so much fruit based because of the sugar content.

Yesterday our daughter decided to bake some really yummy cakes. Of course I ate them. Too many as usual. And some more in the morning.

At least I am down to 1-2 coffees a day instead of 4. Even better when it is only 1. First I need to start going to bed earlier.

Juicing

Yesterday we happened to discover 2 episodes of documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead where Joe Cross did 60 day juice fast to see if his autoimmune condition would get better. We found the whole film very inspiring so we are heading out today to buy a juicer. I am not planning to fast but we want to try and get some nutrients into our kids who are way less healthy than ourselves. Also I am curious to try drinking juice 1-2 times a day and see if my body feels less tired. Important bit is to then ACTUALLY USE THE MACHINE!!!

Being tired

When looking back of our last 8 years I can clearly see the pattern - being tired triggers snacking, overeating, no exercise, feeling yuck. I'm sure I have already discussed it before but again and again I can see the pattern.

Hot and humid nights make it quite hard to wake up refreshed. Add screaming cats or kids who come and snuggle into your bed at night (and push you almost out of the bed so you are managing somehow on the very edge of the bed while your husband has plenty of room on other side) or just silly idea of staying up too late at night. Yep, So tired. Eyes just want to shut down and limbs are weak, can't have a nap either, work needs to be done. When client comes in, put that smile on your face and keep pushing.

So, there comes the chocolate. And million coffees. No exercise. Feeling unmotivated. Shit.
